Former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has criticised the Federal Government’s handling of Nigeria’s worsening security crisis, saying the administration lacks the political will to curb the rising wave of killings and terrorist attacks.
He also said he’s ready to assist President Bola Tinubu to address the insecurity crisis if called upon.
In a statement on Wednesday, Amaechi condemned the abduction of 25 students in Kebbi State, the killing of Brigadier General Musa Uba in Borno, and the recent bandits’ attack on a church in Kwara, describing the incidents as evidence of a government failing in its primary responsibility.
“It is clear that the government in power has no political will to curb the incessant killings and terrorist attacks plaguing our country today,” he said, adding that the surge in mass kidnappings and violent assaults shows a breakdown in national security.

Amaechi warned that the government’s inability to act decisively has “emboldened terrorists and eroded public trust,” citing multiple attacks recorded within a week — including incidents in Plateau, Kebbi, Borno, Kwara, and Kaduna.
He urged the Federal Government to overhaul its security response and intelligence operations.
“The Federal Government needs to step up its game, sharpen its response to terrorist activities, strengthen military intelligence and tactical operations, and live up to the expectations of its people,” he stated.
Directing his message to President Tinubu, the former Rivers governor said, “Your primary assignment is the security of lives and property. Enough of looking the other way or issuing watery statements of condemnation.”
Amaechi also criticised the President’s travel priorities amid escalating attacks, saying leadership demands
and decisive action. He called for better coordination, accountability, and tougher decisions to reverse the security decline.
The former minister said he’s willing to support the administration if asked, saying, “We did it in Rivers State; it can be done in the country. We are prepared to help if you request help.”
