Tragic Crash Claims 16 Lives: Only 2 Survive as Bus Carrying Ondo Corps Members to Gombe NYSC Camp Crashes

A devastating road accident has claimed the lives of at least 16 prospective National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members from Adeyemi Federal University of Education (AFUED), Ondo State, leaving only two survivors in critical condition.

The 18-seater bus, conveying the young graduates to the NYSC Orientation Camp in Gombe State, crashed earlier today along a northern highway.

Eyewitness and preliminary police reports indicate the vehicle lost control at high speed, veered off the road, and somersaulted several times before coming to a halt in a ditch.

Rescue teams comprising personnel from the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), police, and local volunteers arrived at the scene hours after the incident. Bodies of the deceased were recovered and deposited at a nearby morgue, while the two survivors both male were rushed to a specialist hospital in critical condition.

The FRSC Sector Commander in the state confirmed the casualty figures and stated that a full investigation into the cause of the accident has commenced. Excessive speed and possible burst tyre are among the early leads being pursued.

As of the time of filing this report, neither the NYSC Directorate Headquarters nor the Presidency has issued an official statement on the tragedy.
