A student of the Nigerian Law School, Yola Campus, Ayomiposi Ojajuni, who reportedly died by suicide, had failed to meet the mandatory 75 percent attendance requirement, a key criterion for sitting the Bar Final Examination, campus sources told SaharaReporters on Sunday.
Earlier on Sunday, SaharaReporters reported the tragic incident occurred after school authorities allegedly barred Ojajuni from participating in the Bar Final examinations.
A reliable source at the Yola Campus disclosed that Ojajuni and three other students were prevented from taking the Call to Bar examination over various infractions.
According to the source, while Ojajuni was barred for not meeting the attendance benchmark, another student from Bauchi State was excluded following a petition reportedly lodged against him.
Multiple sources explained that the Nigerian Law School typically releases the list of eligible candidates two weeks before examinations, giving students with genuine medical or attendance issues the opportunity to regularize their records.
However, the school recently adopted a new practice of releasing the eligibility list at the last minute, leaving affected students with no opportunity to address legitimate attendance concerns.
Sources told SaharaReporters that Ojajuni, a graduate of Olabisi Onabanjo University, became visibly distressed on Saturday morning, December 6, upon learning he had been barred from participating in the professional examination, which began that day.
He was later said to have ingested a harmful substance shortly after receiving the news.
Ojajuni was rushed to the Modibbo Adama University Teaching Hospital, Yola, where he died on Sunday.
