Mozambique’s President Daniel Chapo has pledged a substantial financial reward for victory in their upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) round of 16 match against Nigeria.
The president announced that each player and staff member of the Mambas, Mozambique’s national team, would receive 500,000 meticais—equivalent to approximately N11.3 million or $7,800—if they defeat the Super Eagles.
The incentive was revealed as the team prepares for the high-stakes encounter, aiming to boost morale and performance against a formidable opponent. Nigeria, a three-time AFCON champion, advanced to the knockout stage with strong group performances, while Mozambique made history by reaching the round of 16 for the first time.
President Chapo, who recently assumed office, emphasized national pride and unity in his message to the squad, stating that the bonus is an “extraordinary” gesture to fuel their determination.
