Bolt, a multinational mobility company that provides ride-hailing, food delivery, and micromobility services through its digital platform, has responded to the recent killing of a Nigerian e-hailing driver in South Africa.
The response follows dash cam footage that captured the fatal attack on 22-year-old Nigerian Bolt driver, Isaac Satlat, in Pretoria.
Satlat was assaulted, hijacked, and strangled on Thursday night in Pretoria. His body and the vehicle were later discovered several kilometres away in Moshongo, Attridgeville, on the outskirts of the city.
Satlat was a student who was scheduled to graduate next month. He had also been making plans to relocate to Canada to further his education.
“We are deeply saddened by the tragic incident involving a driver operating on the platform. Our thoughts and condolences are with the victim’s family and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time,” Bolt said in a statement.
“We are aware of the video circulating online and understand the concern it has generated. We are working closely with law enforcement authorities and will provide all necessary information to support their investigation and help bring those responsible to justice.”
Bolt stated that it is conducting a comprehensive internal review of the incident and will implement any additional measures required to strengthen enforcement and improve safety on its platform.
“As this is an active investigation, we will not be able to comment further at this time,” the statement said.
Two suspects, a man and a woman, have been arrested in connection with a murder case in Gauteng. Police first apprehended the female suspect, who faces charges of carjacking and murder, and is scheduled to appear before the Atteridgeville Magistrate’s Court.
Authorities later confirmed the arrest of a second individual believed to have participated in the fatal hijacking. A third suspect remains at large, and police are urging the public to share any information that could assist in the investigation.
The case is still under active investigation as law enforcement works to bring all those involved to justice. Evidence continues to be collected, and witnesses are encouraged to come forward. Court proceedings for the arrested suspects are pending, with further updates expected as the legal process unfolds.
