Naira slumps, drops N6 against dollar in official market

The Nigerian naira depreciated against the United States (US) dollar on Thursday, 19th February 2026, closing at N1,346 per dollar at the Nigerian Foreign Exchange Market (NFEM). 

According to the data released from the official website of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), the naira traded at the NFEM rate of N1,341.3509 per dollar and closed at the rate of N 1,346 per dollar in the official market. 

This represents a slight depreciation from N1,340, the rate at which the Naira closed on Wednesday, 18th February, 2026, after two-day steady gains earlier this week; thereby showing a decrease in the Nigerian Naira. 

At the parallel market, according to the Bureau De Change operators in major commercial centres like Abuja, Lagos, and Kano, the Naira to dollar exchange rate at the black market on Thursday, 19th February, 2026 was N1,340 for the buying rate and N 1,355 for the selling rate.
