Some officers of the Nigeria Police Force who were promoted from sergeants to inspectors in May 2023 have lamented that five months after their promotion, they are still being paid their old salary for the position of sergeants.
Some of the aggrieved officers said that while in line with their promotion, they ought to have been receiving N130,000 as their new salary as inspectors, they were still being paid N94,000, which is for sergeants.
The aggrieved police officers also lamented that they have not been paid their outstanding arrears.
Meanwhile, according to them, they have been subjected to more work as inspectors, but the authorities have failed to implement their salary upgrade to align with their promotion.
“We are police officers who were promoted from sergeant to inspector in May 2023. Our salary as inspectors is supposed to take effect the following month which is June 2023 up till now, we are still being paid sergeants salary,” one of the officers said.
“As inspector of one bar that we were promoted to, we are supposed to be receiving N130,000 but we are still being paid N94,000 salary of a sergeant, meanwhile we have been promoted to inspectors since May 2023.
“Up till date, they haven’t started paying us inspector salary, neither did we see or get our arrears of salary up till now. The Inspector General is not even addressing this issue,” another aggrieved police officer said.
However, efforts to get the reaction of the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, failed as he did not answer his calls.
He also did not reply to a text message sent to him.
